Outreach

Jesus calls his disciples to provide compassionate care to those in need, saying “When you do it to one of the least of these my brothers, you do it to me.” Scottsville Presbyterian takes these words of Jesus to heart. Through the years we have reached out to others in need in various ways. Here are some of the organizations we have served over the years:

The Bread of Life Ministry of Scottsville
This is an ecumenical ministry staffed by six Scottsville churches. It operates a food pantry program for destitute neighbors who need assistance. The pantry is run entirely by volunteers. Scottsville Presbyterian has supported Bread of Life with both monetary contributions and volunteer staffing.

Mobile Food Pantry (Blue Ridge Area Food Bank)
A mobile pantry from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank visits Scottsville once a month, the fourth Tuesday of the month. When the truck arrives, volunteers step in to unload the food, package it into grocery bags, and distribute it to people in need of emergency food assistance. Many of the volunteers come from local churches, including Scottsville Presbyterian. The start time is 9:00 a.m. if you are helping with carts and sign-in, or 9:30 a.m. if you are helping with food packing and distribution.

James River Boys and Girls Club
A committee of citizens worked tirelessly for several years to establish a Boys and Girls Club in Scottsville, and members of Scottsville Presbyterian played leading roles in planning for this club and its fundraising. The surrounding community was overjoyed when the club opened in the old Scottsville school in June, 2014. Our members continue to support the Club in local advisory council roles, and the church contributes financially to its operating budget.

    Scottsville Presbyterian Women

Scottstville Presbyterian has a women’s group which meets once a month to plan activities that serve the community. The Presbyterian Women sell handmade items and food goods one Saturday a month at the Scottsville Farmers Market. The proceeds of our sales help support numerous local missions, including Madeline’s House, James River Boys and Girls Club, Hospice of the Piedmont and the Salvation Army.
